Kokeshi aux yeux ronds
Adorable kokeshi with round eyes and a nodding head, also decorated with a beautiful river and mountain landscape as well as hiragana (Japanese characters) all hand painted. Signed below.
These dolls filled with poetry and nature were originally made for children and then offered as a sign of love or friendship, also brought back by the Japanese as a souvenir and small gift from the various thermal regions. They could also symbolize the wish for a healthy child. These are artisanal creations which, with the paintings and haikus that adorn them, are an evocation of the beauty of the landscapes and the fascinating culture of the archipelago. This type of Kokeshi is no longer made in Japan today.
